An
ancient maxim of the Church holds that "singing is praying
twice."
St.
Victor's Church is well known throughout the Los Angeles area for
having one of the best choirs in the archdiocese. In addition to
regular service at the 10:30 liturgy every Sunday, the choir also
enriches key celebrations of the Church yearoften with the
accompaniment of an orchestra as well as the magnificent parish
organ, considered one of the finest such instruments in Southern
California.
It
is not necessary to be a professional singer to join this renowned
choir, but dedication and concentration are necessary. The choir
rehearses every Thursday evening and on Sunday mornings before Mass.
Members appreciate the opportunity to sing choral works by such
masters as Handel, Mozart, Haydn, Ralph Vaughan Williams and other
masters. A separate schola concentrates on the ancient tradition
of Gregorian
chant to complement the 5:30 Vigil Mass every Saturday evening.
If
you've always enjoyed singing and would like to use that talent
for the service of God, you are invited to contact the music
director, Dr. Bob de Christopher, himself an accomplished organist
who performs throughout the world.
