All members of the Church are called to service according to their state in life. Catholics have the right to participate in the life of the Church in a variety of ways.

At St. Victor's, there are a number of ways parishioners may participate in the ministry of the Church to build the Kingdom of God. You can learn more about various ministries in our parish by clicking on any of the links below.

Altar ministers. In the early days of the Church, these duties were assigned to ordained people. Today, the laity are encouraged to serve as acolytes (those who serve at the altar), lectors (those who proclaim the Word) and eucharistic ministers (those who bring the Body of Christ to the Faithful at Mass or in their homes or hospitals).

Music ministry. The Church has an ancient tradition of music accompanying the liturgy, that is, the public prayer of the Church. St. Victor's Choir has an outstanding reputation in the archdiocese for the quality of their liturgical service.

Ministry of service to the poor. All Christians are called to serve the poor and to share the blessings God has given them. At St. Victor's, we feed the poor every day, take special collections of food and clothing on the Last Sunday of Advent, the Last Sunday of Lent and the Sunday before Thanksgiving Day. We also have a conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which serves the needs of people in distress who call upon the parish for relief.

Ministry of hospitality. Hospitality is one of the most ancient marks of a Christian. Members of the parish observe this practice by serving as ushers, greeters and by providing refreshments after the 10:30 principal celebration every Sunday (except for summer months).

Prayer for the needs of others. In addition to the general intercessions offered every Sunday during the liturgy, members of St. Victor's parish are involved in offering prayers for the needs of their neighbors. Twice each year, on Palm Sunday and on the Sunday closest to the Feast of the Holy Cross (September 14), we celebrate an HIV Mass for those living with the virus and those who have been lost to AIDS. We also maintain an AIDS Memorial Chapel with a Book of Remembrance for those who have died in the epidemic. Every Monday night we have a novena Mass with prayers to St. Jude, the patron of those in hopeless situations, and we have a chapter of the Legion of Mary who also prays for various needs.

Stewardship. We are asked to contribute financially to the needs of the Church according to our ability. Several times during the year, special collections are undertaken for a variety of causes, such as emergency relief services throughout the world, the missions in the United States, the retirement needs of priests, brothers and sisters and for the poor in our area. St. Victor's also welcomes contributions to our endowment fund to maintain the church property.

Ordained ministry. Those in the parish who feel they may be called to serve the Church in an ordained state of life are encouraged to investigate various options. To learn more, visit the archdiocesan vocations Web site.
