Msgr. Murphy

New Parish Administrator Announced

Cardinal Roger Mahony has appointed Monsignor Jeremiah Murphy, 62, administrator of St. Victor Church, effective July 1, 2000.

For the past 12 years, Msgr. Murphy has been pastor of St. Brendan Parish in Hancock Park. Prior to that, he was in residence for a number of years at St. Basil in Mid Wilshire.

A native of Los Angeles, Msgr. Murphy grew up in Leimert Park, attending grade school at Transfiguration Parish. While he was studying for the priesthood at the old archdiocesan junior seminary, then located on Detroit Street in Miracle Mile (now the site of Daniel Murphy High School) and St. JohnÕs Seminary in Camarillo, his parents moved to Playa del Rey, and it was as a member of St. Anastasia Parish there that he was ordained to the priesthood in 1963. In addition to serving in various parishes, Msgr. Murphy was also a high school teacher and a spiritual director at the archdiocesan junior seminary in San Fernando.

Msgr. Murphy has known Msgr. George Parnassus for more than 35 years and counts him among his good friends. He is looking forward to serving as our new parish administrator and is pleased that the cardinal sent him to St. VictorÕs. Msgr. Parnassus will stay on in residence as pastor emeritus and will be of help to Msgr. Murphy in any way he can.
