December 7

Ambrose died on Holy Saturday, 397. He was born in Trier of noble parents and classically educated. Chile a catechumen, he was chosen by popular acclamation as bishop of Milan. His allegorical explanations and speaking skills made him a great preacher. He was a defender of orthodoxy against Arianism, a heresy which denied the divinity of Christ. He baptized St. Augustine and with Jerome, Augustine and Gregory I is one fo the four great doctors of the Western (Latin) Church.
