Bernard (died 1153), was the Cistercian abbot of Clairvaux in France and a reformer and author (for example, he wrote some 86 sermons on the Song of Songs). He preached againts the Albigensians, who taught a mystical dualism that made evil equal to good, founded 68 monasteries, denounced injjustice and worked for peace.
