Peter Claver (died Sept. 8, 1654) was a Catalonian Jesuit who served in the Colombian missions at Cartagena. For 38 years he dedicated himself to service of the African slaves, baptizing over 300,000. He called himself "the slave of the slaves" and is patron of Colombia and of all missions to black people.
