Martin, born in 1639 in Lima of a Spanish father and black slave mother, became a Dominican lay brother. He humbly ministered to the poor and the sick, especially African salves. He was devoted to teh eucharist and a close friend of St. rose of Lima. He is the patron of social justice and of peoples of mixed races.
