ITherese Martin, the Little Flower, died September 30, 1897 of tuberculosis at the Carmel of Lisieux. She was 24 years old. She was a contemplative who in her autobiography, the Story of a Soul, urged all to follow the "little way" of sanctity in everyday life. She was proclaimed a doctor of the Church by Pope John Paul II on October 19, 1997.
