St.
Louis of France August 25 Louis IX of France (died 1270) was a model ruler and father of 11 children. A lay Franciscan who cared especially for lepers, he built the gothic marvel Sainte Chapelle in Paris as a home for the Crown of Thorns. He died of the plague near Tunis while on crusade.
