Luke,
a Syrian physician from Antioch and companion of Paul, authored
the Acts of the Apostles and a gospel for gentile Christians. His
gospel speaks of God's mercy, universal salvation, love of the poor
and the marginalized, absolute renunciation, prayer and the holy
spirit. He is also said to be an artist who by legend painted an
image of the Blessed Mother. His symbol is the winged ox.
