Thomas
More was beheaded by Henry VIII on July 6, 1535. He was lord chancellor
of England and a famous humanist and author. A close friend of Erasmus
of Rotterdam, he wrote the book Utopia. He refused to support
King Henry's divorce of Queen Catherine and the Act of Supremacy,
which named Henry Head of the Church in England. He is the patron
saint of lawyers.
